# Midaz route validation contract

> Accounting routes are reusable definitions that validate direct transactions only when route validation is enabled.

Teams that rely on Midaz Accounting Routes to validate direct transactions.

## What changed

***

Accounting Routes remain reusable definitions of source, destination, and booking rules. Midaz checks direct transactions against those rules only when route validation is enabled for the Ledger. Route validation is disabled by default.

Cancellation is a source-only lifecycle action that releases held funds; it does not require a destination Account. This is a documentation correction of existing behavior, not a runtime release.

**Classification: Action required.** A route alone does not enforce transaction checks when route validation is disabled.
