# SPI settlement streaming configuration

> SPI requires streaming brokers at startup and its BR Code settlement consumer now runs unconditionally.

## Affects

Teams that deploy or operate Lerian SPI with BR Code settlement or participant-request streaming.

## What changed

The documentation now correctly states that the BR Code settlement consumer runs unconditionally. `STREAMING_BROKERS` remains required at startup, including when `OUTBOX_ENABLED=false`. The retired BR Code settlement-consumer settings no longer control the runtime, and the participant consumer group uses an internal service default unless you override it.

This is a documentation correction of the current runtime behavior; it does not announce a runtime release.

Review SPI deployment values and operating assumptions. Provide reachable streaming brokers, remove reliance on the retired BR Code consumer settings, and validate your participant-consumer override if you use one.
