# Rule suggestions

> Review the match rules that Matcher proposes for a context, then approve or reject each one from the Rule Suggestions page of the Matcher module.

Use the **Rule Suggestions** page in the Matcher module of Lerian Console to review the match rules that Matcher proposes for a context. A suggestion changes nothing on its own. Matcher creates a rule from a suggestion only when you approve it.

To learn how Matcher produces suggestions, see [Rule suggestions](/en/products/matcher/matching/matcher-rule-suggestions).

## Accessing the Rule Suggestions page

***

<Steps>
  <Step>
    In the Matcher sidebar, select a context in **Active context**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Go to **Configure → Rule Suggestions**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The page shows the suggestions of the active context. With no active context, the page asks you to select one and shows a **Browse contexts** button.

When rule suggestions are off, the page shows a notice.

## Generating suggestions

***

Click **Suggest rules** in the page header. A message shows how many suggestions Matcher added to the list. Matcher proposes **Exact**, **Tolerance**, and **Date Lag** rules only.

Matcher uses AI to propose these rules. It sends aggregate statistics of your match history to the language-model provider Lerian configures for your environment.

## Suggestions list

***

| Column | Description |
| - | - |
| **Type** | The strategy of the proposed rule |
| **Priority** | The priority that the proposed rule gets |
| **Confidence** | How confident Matcher is in the proposal, as a percentage with a bar |
| **Status** | **Pending Review**, **Approved**, or **Rejected** |
| **Created** | When Matcher created the suggestion |

Use the **Status** filter to show the suggestions with one status. Use **Items per page** and the page controls below the table to move through the list.

The **Confidence** bar has three bands: high from 90%, medium from 70%, and low below 70%. This value rates the proposal itself. It is not the confidence score of a match.

## Viewing a suggestion

***

Click **View** on a row. The suggestion detail opens below the list. Click **View** again to close it.

The **Proposed rule** panel shows:

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| **Type** | The strategy of the proposed rule |
| **Priority** | The priority that the proposed rule gets |
| **Status** | The status of the suggestion |
| **Rationale** | A short reason for the proposal |
| **Expected improvement** | A note on the expected effect on automatic matching |
| **Created rule** | The ID of the match rule that Matcher created from the suggestion. It shows only after Matcher creates the rule |

The **Configuration** panel shows the confidence and a plain-language summary of the rule under **Matches when**. Click **Show raw configuration** to see the rule configuration as JSON.

## Approving a suggestion

***

The **Approve** and **Reject** buttons show only on a suggestion with **Pending Review** status.

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Open the suggestion and click **Approve**. The **Approve suggestion** dialog opens.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click **Approve**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

When Matcher creates the rule, a message shows the new rule ID, and the suggestion moves to **Approved**. The new rule is on the [Rules](/en/products/matcher/ui/context-rules) tab of the context, at the proposed priority.

## Rejecting a suggestion

***

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Open the suggestion and click **Reject**. The **Reject suggestion** dialog opens.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Optionally, type a reason in **Reason (optional)**, up to 1000 characters.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Click **Reject suggestion**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The suggestion moves to **Rejected**. Matcher creates no rule.
