# Audit trail

> Read the audit events of Tracer in Lerian Console, filter them by event, resource, actor, and date, and verify the hash chain of a record.

The **Audit trail** page is read-only. Tracer keeps an append-only, hash-chained audit trail. Records cannot be edited or deleted.

## Accessing the Audit trail

In the Tracer sidebar, select **Audit trail**. The page lists the events newest first, with the helper **What is the audit trail?**. Without a start date, it shows the last 90 days.

With Access Manager, the page needs the read permission on the Tracer audit events resource.

## Available filters

| Filter | Options |
| - | - |
| **Start date** and **End date** | The period to show |
| **Event type** | Transaction validated, or a rule, limit, or reservation event |
| **Action** and **Result** | The action recorded, and its result |
| **Resource type** | Rule, Limit, Reservation, or transaction |
| **Resource ID** | The ID of the affected resource |
| **Actor type** and **Actor ID** | Who made the change |
| **Account ID**, **Segment ID**, **Portfolio ID**, **Matched rule ID** | The context of the event |

You can also choose items per page.

## Main table

Each row shows the date, the event ID, the event, the actor, the result, and the resource. A row for the sweep that expires held reservations shows **Expiry sweep**.

## Event details

***

Open a row to see the event: its ID, the actor and the IP address, the resource, and the context of the decision. A validation event shows the matched rules, the exceeded limits, the scheme, and the processing time. A rule or limit event shows the values before and after the change. From the event you can open the rule, the limit, or the validation it records.

Select **Verify integrity** to check the record against the hash chain:

| Result | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Integrity verified** | Tracer checked the record and its links in the hash chain, and found no change. |
| **Hash chain broken** | The record, or one linked to it, changed after it was written. Do not rely on it, and escalate. |
| **Not linked into the chain yet** | Tracer links new records within seconds. Try again shortly. |
| **Verification could not complete** | The request failed. It is not a verdict on integrity. |

Rule and limit panels, and the panel of a validation that is not a ledger reserve, also show their own audit history.
